Insurance Details

In light of recent events surrounding non-UKRA/Tripoli launches and Insurance details, UKRA have made the following announcement....

UKRA & BMFA
In order for a flight to be covered at a UKRA event or a UKRA affiliated club event, the UKRA safety code must be followed - this means the flyer must have valid UKRA membership, and must be certified to the appropriate level of UKRA Certification.
Any BMFA member can fly a rocket up to 10,240 Ns and they will be insured. However ...... a person not flying in accordance with the safety code that has an accident or incident resulting in a claim *may* find themselves pursued personally by the insurance company to recover the cost of the claim. In this event, this could result in very serious liability issues for the person not flying in accordance with the Safety Code.
The safety code provided by the BMFA to its members is either the BSMA (British Space Modeling Association) Safety code for low power rocketry, or the UKRA safety code for mid and high power.

TRIPOLI
Any member of Tripoli wishing to fly using Tripoli insurance in the UK must do so at a Tripoli organised launch.
Members of Tripoli must have either BMFA or UKRA membership (and therefore insurance) to fly at **any other event**. (eg Ears, Black Knights or K-lob etc)
The president of Tripoli himself comments that flying within the UK, it is preferable for a member to be UKRA or BMFA insured as the level of insurance is greater.
It is important to note that you cannot attend a Tripoli launch and use your BMFA / UKRA insurance.
I hope that makes the insurance position a little clearer.

Kind regards

The Black Knights would like to draw your attention to the sentance "It is important to note that you cannot attend a Tripoli launch and use your BMFA / UKRA insurance", so if any of our club members do attend a Tripoli launch here in the UK, you must seek Tripoli membership and Tripoli Insurance and make sure the landowner has filled in the Tripoli form for a Certificate of Insurance. Full Details are at Tripoli's web site.

At the Black Knights we are only a UKRA affiliated club, therefore we only accept BMFA (A to G Motors) or UKRA (A to M Motors) Insurance.
