Friday

Friday morning started off damp and cloudy but by the time I got to Grantham it was not to bad at all the sun was out and it looked very good for the weekend Rocket flying, got there around midday and went onto register for the weekend. I also asked Hugh if we had any tables booked, as I was the first B K there, he said there was four at the top of the hanger. Went to have a look and to my surprise the tables where full of TV cameras, lighting etc. The TV people where Filming and all that, so with all that going on I made a dash for Petes shop to get some goodies. Next thing was the briefing in the hanger, seen Mel in there, after the briefing Mel and I cleared the TV stuff off our tables so we could do some work on our rockets. By late afternoon we went to the flying sight. My first rocket to go was POLARIS on a C6-5 a very good flight she landed approx. 20 yds from the main tent. The next one to go was the SIZZLER her first flight on a C6-5. Motor prep and placed on the pad and she was ready to go 5-4-3-2-1. It looked good to start with but she was under powered and made a very good arc and went nose down approx. 80 yds away. After a few seconds the rear parachute deployed, with great surprise she found a soft spot with her nose 5" in the ground at 45deg. The only damage was a broken shock cord and a small crease in the tube. By this time it was 19.00 hrs so I packed up, said good night to Mel and retired to the Pub I was staying at, the Royal Oak in Heckington, had a wash & brush up and down for dinner, had a few pints then to bed, a good day.

Saturday

Got up had breakfast then drove to Pete's Farm now it was the time to prep the Matrix for her first flight on a 29 H 180W the problem is that Pete's delivery did not have any 29 rms. so she was stood down, so went up the F/S with Mel till 1530hrs. By this time my foot was playing up so said goodbye to the lads and headed for home apart from that I really had a good time, see you at the next fly in.

Regards,

Ray.
